A couple of days ago, the impact of what had happened in the last month hit me like a tonne of bricks. I postponed starting my new job due to the circumstances so had to fall straight back in to working life when I returned to London. I am forever grateful that I have my job to look forward to; it has been a great distraction learning new skills and meeting new people.
After my Dad’s one month mind which took place on Saturday evening, I began to feel quite low and realised how much his physical absence in my life is taking its toll. It affected my performance at work, to the point that I needed to go for a walk in the park and remember to breathe.
During that day, I discovered Griefcast on Spotify. It is hosted by Caria Lloyd and guest starred comedians on each podcast. The one I listened to featured Adam Buxton, famous for his role in Hot Fuzz and as an 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown panellist.
The podcast lasted just over an hour and to say it made me laugh would be an understatement. It completely tore down all the sadness and stress associated with loss and replaced it with funny anecdotes and understanding of each other’s feelings. For the first time since my Dad passed, I felt like I wasn’t alone in what I was feeling and that all the questions I had been asking myself were mirrored in their conversation.
I urge anyone who feels alone or misunderstood to listen to this podcast. The relief was instantaneous and I found myself longing for more, ready to hear more stories and questions that needed to be explored.
I have provided the link below, their Instagram page is also wonderful, highlighting upcoming guest stars on the podcast.
Let me know what you think!
